Art Journall Journey -- 101 ways to keep warm

Chris is the host for Art Journal Journey this month and has chosen '101 ways to keep warm'
I have been so busy that I have put this to one side for weeks.
I have used one of my favourite pictures of two little boys dressed up to keep warm in the snow. The background is distress inks with Paperartsy Infusions sprinkled on top. The trees are a Tim Holtz die cut pine tree, with some puff paint for the snow.

Tag Tuesday -- Music

My second tag for Michele's theme of music on Tag Tuesday This time I covered the tag with some blue music  background and added the picture of the lady playing the harp. Some napkin and flowers finished it off.

Every Inchie Monday -- Hedgehog

This week on Every Inchie Monday we feature the hedgehog, the gardeners friend. I just wish I had lots in my garden to eat all the slugs. I have drawn the stampbord one and hand stitched the sewn one. I will really miss doing these when the site closes at the end of the year. I shall try to do some sewn ones for the years I only did card or stampbord ones.

Thursday journal with Neet

My turn this week to choose the colours and words. I have chosen turquoise and lime green, no surprise to those who know me, with my third colour, coral.  The word is mermaid. As soon as I started this I wondered why on earth I had chosen mermaid. All my Dylusion figures were too big, so I used a friends stamp and stamped a mermaid. Neet and I had decided where possible to use Dylusion stamps and I had made a mermaid with one of the heads and a body of another one. I made up a tail and used silk for the hair. It just about filled the page, so hubby who isn't a bit interested in what I was doing said " why don't you photocopy it and reduce the size. So that is what I did.  I have also used the stamped one. I die cut some seaweed and stamped and embossed some more. A few stamped fish and shells and I was finished.
Note to self: Think before coming up with a wood that is too much of a challenge.
I wonder what Neet will choose for next week !!

Fabric pages

These are the two other 8' x 6" pages that I made at the same time as doing the one for Annie. I will probably use these on the cover when we have finished doing all the pages, in other words in eleven months time. Note to self, put them somewhere I can find them next October.
All the fabric on these pages including the large ones are all hand printed and dyed ( procion dye or paint), either on a gelli plate or with Indian wooden blocks or stencils.

Tag Tuesday -- Music

Michele has chosen music for the theme this fortnight on Tag Tuesday. I have very little in the music line in my craft stuff, so didn't find this very easy. For this one I used a distress inked background and pasted some napkin and music onto it before adding the ballerina. To finish off I stamped some piano keys and musical notes.

Every Inchie Monday -- Goose

Goose is the theme this week on Every inchie Monday. My stampbord one is drawn and coloured and the sewn one is all stitches. The goose is something I have never wanted to own, ducks we had but geese are so noisy. They make very good guards as they let you know immediately when someone is around, that is if you can put up with their aggressive attitude as well.

Tag Tuesday -- Book Print.

This is my second one for Sandie's theme of Book Print on Tag Tuesday. The background is distress inked and then the book print added. I then adhered the leaves from the garden with acrylic wax top and bottom, which should preserve them.
I added some flowers and wooden words to finish off.

Fabric book with Annie.

Annie and I have stopped doing the postcards now and have embarked on a small fabric book. This will take the form of us trying a different page every month on the technique and style of textile artists we like.
The first one is Hillary Beattie whose style we like a lot. I have made several of them so far and will put them on my blog later. At the moment I am trying to figure out how to bind my book together aa it does not lend itself to a normal binding technique.

This the one I made for Annie.

Thursday Journal with Neet

This week the theme was chosen by Neet and the two colours are orange and red with a third one of your own choice. The word is Autumn.
I have chosen brown as my third colour and have use a Dylusion tree for the main image. The dog and cat stamps are a mixture of Dylusions and Tim Holtz.
The paint I used is also Dylusions.

Every Inchie Monday -- Owl

A lovely one to do this week as I love owls. My stampbord one is shrink plastic and the sewn one, hand stitches to simulate feathers. It's on a felted background.
I am away for the weekend until Tuesday so this is a scheduled post.

Another textile experiment.

This one was made with the help of texture paste through a stencil, and a build up of fabrics onto the top of the substate fabric. Puff paint was then added around the added pieces of fabric to hide the edges, and the whole piece was covered with black chiffon sewn and then melted with a heat gun. I added some hand stitching and beads to finish off.

I want to do this piece again, as I now realise how I could improve it, especially the colours.

Thursday Journal with Neet

We are now on a new journal, which measures 8" x 8" and we will choose a new subject each week with a limited colour scheme. We have started off with Halloween, which will remind us when we started it, and kick start the new journal.
I thought I would like the smaller size, but now I'm not so sure. I found it harder to compose than the larger size, and many of my Dylusion stamps are too big for this size.
The colours this time are orange, green and black.

Fabric experiments

When I went to my friends for a few days we had a session of trying different techniques with fabrics. The first one is layers of fabric sewn down in lines and then slashed between the stitching. The second one the stitching is in vermicelli stitch and then melted with a soldering iron. and the fabrics are sheers that melt, like organza.

Tag Tuesday -- Book Print

For this fortnight on Tag Tuesday, the theme chosen by Sandie is Book Print. This can be a feature, or a background, as long as there is some book print on the tag. For this one I started off by tearing up some old book print and then adding some torn up pink tissue paper. I then used texture paste through a stencil. When it was dry I sprayed it with inks. I then added some stampings, feathers and some ribbon at the bottom, and a wooden butterfly.

Every Inchie Monday -- Spider

Yuk, I loath spiders, especially the large ones, lets face it, they have too many legs, and move too quickly. Not happy with either of these, the sewn one is blurred as the bead is quite bulky, and the drawn one I made a mess of and had to use an eraser which took the surface off the stampbord.

Every Inchie Monday -- Squirrel

This week I have used the red squirrel for my inchies, as I don't like our very prolific grey squirrel, who do a lot of damage. I have drawn the stampbord one and hand sewed the other. The sewn one looks a bit blurred and my scanner is playing silly beggars again. How can a bit of computer equipment have moods ???
I don't seem to have had much time at home recently and am trying to catch up on everything. The weather is awful, cold and wet, so the garden is not getting any attention either.

Tag Tuesday -- Autumn or Halloween

A few more tags for Valerie's theme on Tag Tuesday. I am also entering this on Try it on Tuesday where the theme is Halloween. Again the backgrounds are distress ink with various stampings an image and a plastic skeleton that I painted to tone in with he background.

Tag Tuesday -- Halloween

Halloween/Autumn is the theme chosen by Valerie on Tag Tuesday. I love doing Halloween and Autumn as the colours are so rich and vibrant. My tag was distress inked and the image is from Lisa's images, and die cuts.
I am also entering this in Try it on Tuesday where the theme is Halloween as well

The second one is also distress inked with stamped images.

Every Inchie Monday -- Bear

Not a very productive week for me, I just can't seem to get going with any enthusiasm. I have done some gardening though, but today the sky is a horrid yellow colour and it looks as if it might rain.
The animal this week on Every Inchie Monday is bear, and I so grateful that we don't have them roaming around the UK.
My stampbord one is shrink plastic and the sewn one the face of a really miserable one. He obviously hadn't had any honey recently.

Every Inchie Monday -- deer

Gosh did I struggle with the sewn one this time, and gave up at midnight. The more I messed about with it the worse it looked.
The stampbord one is shrink plastic.

Fabric postcard

Another fabric postcard for my swap with a friend. This time the word was leaves, and I chose to do Autumn colours for mine. The base is needle felt overlaid with coloured scrim. I cut the leaves from pelmet vilene and coloured them with acrylic paint. I then machine stitched them to the base. This will be the last of the postcard swap, as we have decided to do pages for a fabric book. We are going to choose a textile artist we like and do a page on the same(ish) technique. As we will do a page for ourselves as well we will end up with two fabric books, one from each of us.

Thursday journal with Neet

This will be our last anything goes theme in our large journals. Mine is now full and we are going onto a 8" x 8" journal where we choose three colours and a word each week. Neet is off on holiday so we are taking a two week break.
I have used an already inked page and have kept to the animal theme to match the opposite page.

Tag Tuesday -- All creatures great and small

The theme on Tag Tuesday has changed to All creatures great and small for the next two weeks, this was chosen by Wilma, who has made some lovely tags to inspire us.
I have chosen to use bees as my first tag. I hope to do another one when I get back from my friends next week. I am off for a sewing few days.

Monday, 2 October 2017

Every Inchie Monday -- Chameleon

This week on Every Inchie Monday the theme is Chameleon. The sewn one I used beads to get the bright colours  Not very good or neat) and the stampbord one is shrink plastic.

Sunday, 1 October 2017

Tag Tuesday -- Steampunk

Another tag for Tag Tuesday on the steampunk theme. This time I used some printed paper the right side and inked the other. I stamped some images and added some cogs.

I am also entering this in Try It on Tuesday where the theme is time is time or clocks

Go tag Thursday -- Earth Tones

This is the last challenge on Go Tag Thursday as Sandie is closing it down, as not enough people enter the challenge. She has worked so hard and I am very sad to see it go. I love making tags.
The background and leaves are coloured with distress inks, and I have added some brads and leaves at the base.

Thursday Journal with Neet

This is the last but one page in my large journal, after this we are going to work in a smaller format, a 8" x 8" journal, but still using our Dylusions.
I must admit doing an anything goes theme I am running out of ideas. but the weather today gave me the idea for this page.
The page was already painted and stencilled.

I am also entering this in Yvonne's colour my world on Art Journal Journey

Tag Tuesday -- Steampunk

This is my second tag for Joan's steampunk theme on Tag Tuesday. I used a distress inked background and added some stamped and printed images. Cogs finished off the tag

Every Inchie Monday -- Boa

Now I definitely didn't like doing this one, I even had trouble drawing one. The sewn one is a piece of fine leather rolled up, coloured and curled up. Once the colours had dried on the stampbord I coated the snake in a 3D glossy medium, which has made the markings blurred.  Not very pleased with either of these.
I hadn't realised how many colours they came in. Why on earth do people have these as pets ????

Tag Tuesday -- Steampunk

For this fortnight on Tag Tuesday, Joan has chosen Steampunk for her theme. I do enjoy doing steampunk and started with distress inking the tags. I then stamped the backgrounded the main image. I then stamped another one and put foam pads underneath to lift it.
Finally I added some cogs and some steampunk bits.

Thursday Journal with Neet

Another anything goes page in my now nearly full journal. We are back from St Ives and Ploughing through the washing and unpacking. Where does it all go, and did I really take all those clothes.
We had a great holiday, even though the weather was a bit iffy.
Came home via Devon to see one of my cousins, and then had to get home via Wales as the M5 was shut because of a terrible accident.
I have used an already painted page, and apart from the saying, cat and dog they are all Dylusion images.

I have entered this in Yvonne's Colour my World on Art Journal Journey

Every Inchie Monday -- Trout

On Every Inchie Monday this week we are still in the water with the trout. I like eating them but not sewing them, talk about fiddly. I have drawn the stampbord one and used some fabric and stitching for the sewn one.
I have had a very fishy week in Cornwall, I ate fish all week, including Hake, Haddock, Sea Bass, Sea Bream, Squid, Prawns and Lemon sole. We are now back home and I'm cooking a chicken.
Still on the Cornwall scene, we were in St Ives and one of the beaches for two days the life guards stopped folks going into the sea. Not because of the waves, but because there were hundreds of Man of war jellyfish in the bay. They had picked up 600 from the beach alone.

Thursday Journal with Neet.

Another anything goes this week and this is a scheduled post as we are in St Ives in Cornwall. We are having another arty week and I am catching up with a friend who has an exhibition there.

I am also entering this in Art Journal Journey where the theme is Colour in my world.

Tag Tuesday -- Paris

This is my third tag for my Paris theme on Tag Tuesday, I covered a card tag with some of my Tim Holtz paper and stamped the small tag and the dancers. The line drawings came from a book. Added two small circles  and some flowers to finish off.
We are in St Ives at the moment, and so far have been lucky with the weather, I will put some pictures on when we get home.
